Sports Premium Funding

At South Petherwin Primary School we believe PE and Sport plays an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better. We have welcomed the Governments announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding for the foreseeable future to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people. Sport Premium Grant Funding for schools will be calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census. All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil. Smaller schools will receive £500 per pupil. How will we measure the impact?
South Petherwin Primary School will measure success through pupil voice, via the School/Sports Council, pupil conferencing, feedback questionnaires to parents, children and staff and the monitoring of pupil progress. We will carry out these aspects this Spring Term and at the end of the Summer Term enabling us to measure the level of improvement, enjoyment and impact on the children and their families and to further develop our sports programme for future years.

How we spend the Sports Premium Grant
We currently spend the £16,340 of additional sport premium money against our 5 agreed areas, outlined in our Sport Action Plan attached below.

Every school has a sports premium, an amount of money to spend on improving the provision and opportunities for children to engage with sports - please see the attached documentation to see how we have spent ours.

At South Petherwin Primary we understand that for many children PE is the best part of their week! We use our PE sessions to offer children the opportunity to try different sports, such as karate or yoga for example. They are taught about keeping healthy and making healthy choices as well as how to participate and push yourself so that every child, regardless of their interest and ability, is able to enjoy and make the most out of PE sessions.

The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.

The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils. Increased participation in competitive sport.

We are very proud of the amount of sport and activity that is on offer at Blisland Primary and the increasing number of children who participate
